Always sit down and eat calmly. Chew all your food properly. When you eat while standing up, you tend to snack.

There is no hard and fast rule that you will have to lick your plate clean. Stop eating just a little before you feel full. Leave a little empty space in your stomach. This will create a caloric deficit.
Replace butter and cream with olive oil, Soya oil, rice bran or mustard oil that are low on cholesterol. Use non stick cook ware to cook your food.
Sesame oil, canola oil are also good options. Whatever healthy oil you choose, pour them in an aerosol spray and use just a spritz of oil to cook your food.
Avoid junk food, clarified butter, cakes, pastries, sweets, chocolates, cookies, oily gravy spicy calorie laced food and fried food items like chips and French fries.
Jazz up your bland diet food with a hint of blue grated cheese.
Adopt brown bread, brown rice, whole wheat food items.
Watch your portions or servings.
Don't nibble at some one else's leftovers.
Stay away from tempting delicacies which will add to your calories.
Lastly, there is no alternative to
